A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. (John 13:34)

Father,

You have given me one job to do in life – to love You and love people. Sounds simple. But it’s the hardest thing in the universe, for my selfish heart gets in the way. But, Lord, if you have commanded me to love, then you will surely give me what it takes to follow through, for you are just and would never ask me to do something without giving me the resources to do it.

Your Word tells me that the love of God has been poured into my heart through the Holy Spirit. I have the love of God abiding richly in my heart!  Today I access the love of God in my heart and let that love lead me to love others. I will forgive as you have commanded me! I choose today to allow Your love to shine through to everyone I meet, friend or foe, family or stranger. Loving You and loving people is the same, for you have warned me that I cannot say I love God and yet hate anyone. Hate disqualifies me as Your follower.

I have but one job to do, Lord. Help me to succeed. Please transform me into a person marked by love and forgiveness.

In Jesus’ Name Amen
