Yes, the results of Notre Dame’s mock election are in, and the winner is…Barack Obama. According to The Observer, the campus newspaper:

“2,692 undergraduate and graduate students participated in the mock election. Democrat Sen. Barack Obama and running mate Sen. Joe Biden won 52.6 percent of the vote, followed by the Republican ticket of Sen, John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin, which won 41.1. percent of the vote.”

As the article notes, that roughly mirrors election eve polls nationally, but not in the rest of Indiana. Some thought the campus more conservative than that. And what of the rest of the Catholic Church in the United States? We’ll see. Many bishops have spoken out in strong opposition to Obama, with some warning Catholics that their salvation is at risk if they go for the Democrat.

So, is Notre Dame Catholic? Or are the bishops?
