In one week, I’m leaving with my two boys and twenty others for The World Cup. U.S. fans are buzzing with excitement after USA’s 3-1 win over Australia yesterday. All five of my children play soccer so this will be a huge event for us. Up to this point, the largest soccer game I’ve ever seen is our local Denver MLS team. We’ll also be joined with many other fans from the states since the US leads all nations in World Cup Ticket sales.

I wouldn’t be telling the truth if I didn’t confess that I was a bit apprehensive. The first game we will see is Chile vs. Honduras in Johannesburg – that’s one of the most dangerous cities in the world and there has been concern over security. There was a stampede yesterday at this stadium and fourteen people were injured.
I’m going to be asking a lot of questions to business owners and officials about how sex trafficking is impacting their communities. It’s quite disturbing to think about the ramifications of 40,000 prostitutes, including many trafficked underage girls, being sent to a place that has one of the highest rates of HIV/AIDS infections in the world.
You’re invited to come with us! I’ll be blogging daily and posting video and pictures. We’ll also be doing ministry with inner city kids and orphans while in Capetown. Can’t wait to show you what’s happening at the biggest sporting event in the world! argentina-vs-brazil-2010-world-cup-qualifier.jpg
