I was contacted by CNN investigative journalist, Amber Lyon, who reaffirmed her passion for helping Haiti and ending child trafficking by sending this story directly to her producers at CNN.
And, we’ve been fielding calls from other major US news outlets who are working now to bring this story to a wider audience.
Here’s what you can do today:
Sign the second petition urging Haitian President Michel Martelly to take immediate action to close the Son of God Orphanage. We have surpassed 10,000 signatures on our first petition, and this follow-up action is CRITICAL to influencing President Martelly and the Haitian government to act swiftly for these children.
Share the petition and this update on Facebook, Twitter, your blog, or by e-mail. We need more and more people to sign the petition and demand change for the 75 children at Son of God.
Let me re-cap the horror of this situation:
- Over 50 children are missing and the current director continues to claim she has no idea what happened to those children.
- In July, the former director was arrested for trying to sell a child during a police-led sting operation.
- A one year old baby received horrific burns and was denied medical treatment for two weeks.
- One 5-year-old girl was on the brink of starvation and is now completely missing from the orphanage
- Our aid workers on the ground have been personally threatened by the director
Medical professionals who have examined the children are raising their voices as well and we hope to get their stories in front of the media as well.
Thank you for your help. Keep spreading the word and using your voice on behalf of the children of Son of God Orphanage. Thank you!
