We’ve all heard the nursery rhyme, “Chicken Little” where the main character is crying out that the sky is falling. Well, a real-life chicken little event occurred on Friday night, December 31, 2010.
In Beebe, Arkansas, outside of Little Rock, 2,000 red-winged blackbirds fell dead from the sky. What makes this so strange is that all of the birds fell dead with in a one-mile radius. There are several theories about what may have happened:
1. Fireworks shot in the area causing them to die from stress
2. Poisoning or illness
3. Secret government weapons testing
4. They were hit by lightening or high-altitude hail
Mike Robertson, the Beebe mayor, and other officials went to the roost area over the weekend and found no dead birds on the ground. “That pretty much rules out an illness” or poisoning, the mayor said.
At this point, nobody really knows what happened.
What do you think?
