It took him long enough. I figured he’d apologize when people like Ford, Jr. and Brazille were demanding an apology:

“I sincerely regret that my words were misinterpreted to wrongly imply anything negative about those in uniform, and I personally apologize to any service member, family member, or American who was offended,” he said in a written statement.

Who says things like this, “I personally apologize?” It sounds weird. It’s not much of an apology, it’s your standard, “I apologize if you were offended by my totally innocent remark. The problem is with you not me. If you were smart enough to understand me, then we wouldn’t have this problem. But since we do, I’m sorry.”
The base isn’t going to be too happy about this. They thought he was right, that the troops aren’t educated:

there is no bomb. kerry did not mispeak. i don’t think he was telling a joke, instead confirming what we already knew, that under the abysmal bush, there is a steady recruitment of cannon fodder – the poorly educatied, with no jobs and no future to look forward to. “

If you are going to trash someone else’s education, shouldn’t you spell check your comment before you post it? And isn’t that a nice touch? Cannon fodder. For our men and women who risk their lives to protect this person’s right to freely make that statement.
