If French were the lingua franca, I would agree that Americans should learn it. But since English is pretty much the lingua franca, why should we? I can see learning Spanish but why should we learn a language that’s on it way out and not used as widely as it was in the past?And I wonder how many languages Obama knows. His standard of foreign travel is pretty high, you can’t visit a foreign country without knowing the language. (via)
