Since he got the call from the president that he’s needed, I guess he had no choice but to do the job that the Illinois voters elected him to do:

Obama, who has been campaigning in Florida, said he agreed to return to Washington after Bush phoned with an invitation for the impromptu White House summit.

Instead of looking like a leader and taking charge of the situation, he looks like a follower, someone summoned to do the bidding of others.
