You kill two birds with one stone! The poor get a car and the big 3 will rake in millions of tax payers’ dollars and the earth is happy because the poor will trade in their older, less fuel efficient cars for newer fuel efficient cars. It’s a win-win for everyone, right? Well, everyone except for the taxpayer.
Along with Sen. Dick Durbin, of Illinois, Harkin introduced a bill earlier this week that in turn would take older, less-fuel-efficient cars off the road, while also giving buyers a big bonus.
The Sell Fuel Efficient Cars Act would provide a rebate of $10,000 to buyers who trade in a car more than 10 years old for a new American car.
Can you actually get an American car for $10,000? Because you know the poor aren’t going to be able to afford too much on their own.
