Ken Shepherd very helpfully provides some information about the author of the article on Driscoll:
In her January 6 article, “Who Would Jesus Smack Down,” Worthen — who studied American religious history at Yale University— portrayed the founding pastor of Seattle’s Mars Hill Church as an edgy hipster “cussing” pastor who chagrins religious conservatives and liberals alike, all while confounding evangelicals with his Calvinistic take on biblical theology.
It’s amazing to me how far Yale has fallen that it produces a writer who can’t even articulate the basics of Calvinism and as Ken rightly notes:
Simply put, Worthen does little to distinguish Calvinism from fatalism.
That a woman who studied American religious history doesn’t have a grasp of the basics of Calvinism is amazing because it was so much a part of early American history. One of the things that is drilled into the student’s head in each of our classes at WTS is the need to articulate your opponent’s true position, not a straw man. They should be able to read how you explained their position and say, “Yes, that’s what I believe.” I guess Yale doesn’t teach that principle to its students.
