When I read that Rudy was making comments about gay marriage in preparation of a run for governor of NY, I thought it was a stupid move. I don’t think it’s a major issue right now (even though the governor is trying to make it one, it probably won’t make it past the Assembly) since the voters of NY are focused on spending, jobs and taxes. Rudy has a reputation as a fiscal conservative and he should run on that, not take the time away focusing on peripheral issues which are beyond his control (as the current governor will find out) and won’t even be on the radar screen in the future. I’m glad that Rudy understands that it’s the economy stupid:

“I don’t get the sense that this is the key thing that people are thinking about right now – I think the economy overshadows everything,” he told Fred Dicker on Albany’s Talk 1300 AM just now.

I hope other Republicans realize in 2010 that it will still be the economy because with unemployment hitting 10% in many states and Congress not doing what’s necessary to create an environment for job growth (raising corporate and individual taxes), we will probably be in a recession until at least then.
