Well, it looks like Michael Steele isn’t the only one who thinks it’s weird that Obama would request that the first black governor of NY get out of the race:

“You never heard of that before,” Michelle Paterson, in her first comments on the situation, said following a luncheon in Midtown.
“David’s the first African-American governor in the state of New York and he’s being asked to get out of the race. It’s very unusual and it seems very unfair.”

Obviously, Obama is more concerned with keeping the seat in Democratic hands (as the commenters on the Steele post noted). Obviously, this is out of character for a Democrat and has taken everyone by surprise. It’s certainly not in keeping with the Democrats’ position on affirmative action or the words of the diversity czar.
