Artist Dan Hillier’s portrayal of Icarus has the mythical figure being dropped from the sky by a seraph, one of the higher angels. Interesting what it says about hubris as a form of defying divinity. In this image (at least as I interpret it), Icarus did not fly so high on his own power, as he might have thought, but by the power of the divine. Forgetting that caused his downfall.
On the other hand, I suppose you could see this image as a protest against divine cruelty. Whatever you think, it’s an arresting image. (Via BoingBoing):
