It is not dangerous.
It is not selfish.
You will not get a big head, become a narcissist, and lose all your friends.
This does not mean you go out and get pedicures and leave your starving kids at home to fend for themselves. It does mean some relationships change depending on how healthy they were to begin with. When you love yourself, you set boundaries and surround yourself with people who want what is best for you.
It makes ALL of your relationships better. You love from a different place then. It is pure.
Your relationships are competition free and authentic. You stop keeping a score card of love on everyone. Knowing you are responsible for loving yourself instead of looking for others to fill that space is actually freeing.
Filling up your own love cup means you have more to give others also. Your cup overflows and you can love without an agenda because you know you will always be filled up again. Who really fills up the self-love cup. . .God. Call it God-Goddess-Source-Universe-Divine-Higher Power, it is the love energy I am speaking about. That is where love originates.
The idea that we shouldn’t love ourselves too much is a flawed idea. It comes from the idea of ego. That if you give that part of you too much power it will become out of control like a diabolical dictator of darkness hell-bent on getting more at others’ expense. The other side of that is we must be humble, not get too big for your britches, always put others first is not really based in love, but rather in how others will perceive us. It is so others will think we are a nice/good/better person. Being a doormat has nothing to do with being a spiritual person. We absolutely must think big and believe in ourselves to accomplish goals, dreams, and overcome obstacles. Self-love is the strength, resiliency, courage, and personal power that is our spirit.
Self-love is spirit based. It is about our soul and not our ego. Why would a creator take this Divine spark of brilliance and then want you to hate yourself, talk badly about yourself, and to just focus on your mistakes? Self-love is holy. It is honoring of your life and beingness as a thank you to the Universe. It’s saying, “Thank you for the blessing, the gift, the magic, the miracle of me in this beautiful life.” It’s showing your Creator of Love and Light that you’re going to be a rockstar of your own life and you will bless others in the process.
Speak about yourself the way you want your children to SEE themselves. Focusing on your mistakes, shortcomings, and being a victim is not loving to anyone. Focusing on your accomplishments, your positive attributes, and your victor story is loving to EVERYONE. It is loving to you, your children, God, and all those you speak with as you inspire goodness within them.
How do you learn to start loving yourself? Cause this sounds all good and all. You’ve given yourself permission to do this, but you’ve been doing the other way for so long. . .how do you change your thinking? Feels like a mountain to climb, right?
Right now, stop. Take a deep breath. Take in God’s love. Picture Unconditional love and Divine white Light coming down though you head and all the way down to your feet, filling up every cell of your being. Imagine this love going back up to the heavens as a thanks of love. Repeat three times. Then send love from your heart as a blessing to the world.
Now you’re filled up.
Next step is when negative thoughts come up, ask: “What would love say?”
Soften, “I’m an idiot. I always do everything wrong,” to “I forgive myself for all my mistakes. I’m going to lighten up and not take being perfect so seriously. I’m going to let it go. I’m human. I’m doing the best I can.”
It’s a journey that doesn’t need any books, teachers, or tools. It needs only your focus. If it is your intention to love yourself, it will be. Live on purpose every day. Love is the fuel, the tool, the answer, the way, the path, the key, and the freedom you’re always looking for when you look outside of yourself for love. God put an endless well of love within your soul. It’s always there within. Now begin.
