In today’s “gotta have it now” society, we’re all used to doing things pretty quickly.  We like to have things when we want them and we don’t want to have to wait.  We don’t want to wait in line at the grocery store, we don’t want to sit in traffic on the highway and our internet connection better not be slow because we have better things to do than to wait 30 seconds for a webpage to download.

But God never said we’d get everything we want, when we want it.  In fact, the Bible talks over and over again about just the opposite – waiting.

“The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks him.”  – Lamentations 3:25

“But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”  -Isaiah 40:31

Often, God will have us wait for something that we want.  The reason for that wait may become evident later or we may never know why we had to wait.  But many times it’s so He can teach us a lesson during that waiting period.  If a single man or woman is praying for a spouse but they have yet to meet that someone special, God is most likely doing some work in them first so they will be more prepared once that relationship does come along.  Or if the healing isn’t coming quickly enough, maybe God wants to teach you something during your time of illness.

God’s timing is something beyond our comprehension for “[His] thoughts are not [our] thoughts, neither are [our] ways [His} ways.”  (Isaiah 55:8)  We may not always understand why something may take longer than we’d like for it to materialize in our life but we don’t have to understand the why.

All we have to do is always remember that God’s ways are good.  He knows more about the divine plan than you do, so don’t try to force things to happen before they should (or if they should even happen at all).  Bring your requests to God, make them known to Him and then step back and trust Him to do what is best for you in the long run.

“Therefore the Lord waits to be gracious to you, and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you. For the Lord is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him.”  -Isaiah 30:18

You will be blessed for waiting.

You will be blessed in the waiting.
