It all started with American Idol several years ago. Now we have all kinds a live competitions on TV; America’s Got Talent, So You Think You Can Dance?, Live to Dance and The Voice. I wonder what next year will bring.
So why is our society so certain that fame and fortune will bring them happiness and acceptance? There are many ways for us to leave our mark on this world. Usually sudden fame brings lots of stress and other things that can be detrimental to our well being. Many people do not do well in the spotlight.
God gives each of us gifts and talents as He chooses. Ephesians chapter 4 tells us some of the gifts He gives. He gives us what we need, not necessarily what we want. God can give us gifts in many areas of life. Some can sing or write beautiful music. Some can dance and entertain masses. Some can write wonderful stories. Some have hidden talents like grace, patience, hospitality, or a ministry of helping others.
God has placed within every individual the talents and giftings they will need to fulfill His destiny in them. We may look around and envy someone who has a different talent and wish it could be us, but God has given us all we need. Phillipians 4:19 says, “…..my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Jesus Christ.”
A good parent will give their child things that will help him/her to become better individuals. A child will almost always choose a cookie or candy over a celery stick or a piece of cheese, but what is better for them?
Sometimes it can be a challenge to find God’s purpose for us. But, if we search for it, He will help us discover our place in this world. Because it is He who has created each of usand He knows us better than we know ourselves, I think it is safe to say, “God knows best.”
True peace and happiness comes from knowing who you are in Jesus and walking in His destiny for you. Maybe you will be the next American Idol, but maybe you will find fulfillent and happiness in a completely different arena.
