One of America’s greatest past times is  going to garage sales.  In any given week there can be up to 100 sales just in our small community.  This activity seems to be popular with both men and women, although I think the women are more dedicated.  The big attraction is finding that one great bargain.  It is true that, “one man’s junk is another man’s treasure”.

Sometimes whole neighborhood will go together and have sales on the same weekend.  That way they can share advertising expenses and benefit from people who will go to every sale on the street.  We  even have a community garage sale.  Anyone in Fremont can have a sales without paying permit fees or advertising.  That is one crazy weekend!

You can find just about anything at these sales; clothes, tools, kitchen appliances, home decor, lawn care equipment, and some hidden treasures.  A few weeks ago, during our community garage sale, I came across the deal of a lifetime.  I found a complete antique silver tea set selling for $5.  I checked it over and determined that is was actually silver.  I wanted to buy it so badly, but  I just couldn’t.  I felt like I was being dishonest in taking unfair advantage of this young couple.  They obviously didn’t know the real value of this set.

I spoke with them and told them of a place where they could get a fair appraisal of the tea set.  They thanked me for my honesty and I went on to the next sale.  I was off to find another deal and I did.  I got a Hannah Montana sleeping bag for my grand-daughter for just $2 and a whole pile of old sheets for a dollar.  I make handmade crocheted rag rugs from the sheets, so that was quite a deal.

Garage sales are always fun and you see lots of old friends and make some new ones along the way.  It’s a fun and enjoyable way to spend a few hours searching for treasures.  You really should try it sometime.
