A few weeks ago I wrote a news blog about Americans becoming a bunch of liars.  My source was the CBS Early Show.  This week they have had an incredible story about honesty.  It seems that the Smith family went to a hockey game in Minnesota.  During the break they had a special event.  Names were put in a drawing.  If they picked your name you had a chance to win $50,000.

Pat Smith had taken his twin sons, Nate and Nick, to the event.  Nate was recovering from a broken arm so he let Nick put his name in twice because he felt he wouldn’t have a chance at making this shot even if they drew his name.   Nick went outside just as they drew his name, so Nate was left to do the challenge.

The challenge was to shoot a hockey puck 89 feet into a 3 and half inch slot.  Most professional hockey players couldn’t make that shot.  Nate is 11 years old and wasn’t at his best, physically, but he made that amazing shot.  The crowd gasped and his father couldn’t believe his eyes.  Nate had just won $50,000!

After the father, Pat, had a chance to think about it, he decided that it wasn’t being completely honest to let Nate accept the money when it was actually Nick whose name was drawn.  He called the officials and told them the whole story.  Pat Smith determined that teaching his boys the value of honesty was more important than $50,000.  He really put his money where is mouth is.

The insurance company that sponcered the event has not yet determined if Nate will get the money or not, but they probably won’t allow it.  I hope someone sees it to rward this family for telling the truth.  If not, I know God will bless them in ways they may never understand.  They may not know that He is their source, but He is an awesome God and He loves honesty
