With the coming of each new year comes the notion that we have a new beginning.  Of course, this quite true, but not only with the coming of a new year.  God’s Word tells us in Lamentations 3:22-24, “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.  The Lord is my portion, therefore I will hope in Him.”

We can start new every day.  God’s mercies and compassion are fresh each morning.  We can forget about the mistakes and failures of yesterday.  We can release the hurts of the past and begin again.  We can forgive and forget those who have wronged us.  Isn’t that wonderful?

The enemy would have us believe that we have screwed up so badly that we are doomed to live in defeat; that we have failed one too many times and God is mad at us.  We do mess up a lot, at least I do.  But, I choose to believe God’s Word.  It says that He loves me.  It says that He forgives me.  It says that He understands my plight.  It says that He is waiting for me to run into His open arms.  For that I am so thankful.

God’s steadfast love never ceases, His mercies never come to an end.  We can always call on Jesus for help and encouragement.  He really does understand.  He was born into this world, just like you and I were.  He lived with the same trials and temptations that we do.  He was 100% human and 100% God.  He can do all things; and we can do all things through Him, Phillipians 4:13, ” I can do all things through Christ who strengthen me.”

Isn’t God amazing?  A fresh start every day.  How can one be defeated with a fresh start every day?  How can one be discouraged with His unfailing love surrounding us?  How can we be grumpy when we serve the greatest God in the universe?
