Sometimes we think of Valentine’s Day as a holiday for adults, for people who in love with each other.  I have learned over the years of teaching that children love Valentine’s Day too.  Many take cards and treats to school and have parties with their classmates.  They make beautiful cards for their parents or grandparents and wear red and pink clothes in celebration.

Many of the children at our church are home schooled so we had at party in Sunday School class.  We had our Bible lesson and then made Valentine cards for the mothers and grandmothers of the children.  A little glue, a doily and some stickers and like magic we produced beautiful cards that expressed their love.

Then we had a party.  I bought special Valentine napkins and made pink strawberry cupcakes for their treat.  Two of the little girls said that they were, “the best cupcakes they ever had”. The truth is that they probably never had strawberry cupcakes before.  It was just a box mix and canned frosting; although they had one special ingredient, their teacher’s love.

We had so much fun that some of the children didn’t want to leave class when their parents came to get them.  One little guy even cried because he wanted to stay.  I guess that means they liked their party and that they like their teacher.  I hope they do, because I sure love each of them.
