In our pursuit of our destiny, we must be open to try new things.  How else will we know what is our passion is and what talents and giftings we have?  A person who goes to church every time the doors are open, pays their tithe faithfully, and sits in the same seat every Sunday, will probably never find their destiny in God.  Not because they have no destiny, but because they aren’t looking for it.

Jesus came into this world to be a servant.  He was always ready to help whenever and wherever He could.  Although He knew His destiny since the beginning of time, He still had to learn to function in the earthly realm.  I’m sure He never had raised the dead or healed the blind while He was living in Heaven.  So they were new experiences for Him.

We often don’t try new things because we are afraid of failing.  Jesus had complete trust in His Heavenly Father.  That wiped away all fear.  We need to trust that deeply.  Jesus is our perfect example in all things.  The only people who never fail are those who never do anything.

In any given church there are many opportunities to serve.  How will you find your passion if you don’t try anything?  Try being an usher, teacher, greeter, or toilet cleaner.  Work in the food pantry or office as a volunteer.  Offer to be on the worship team or prayer teams.  You will soon discover what it is that makes you shine.  You may participate in several ministries in and outside the church.  There are never enough volunteers to serve in any given community, find out where you fit.

I tried volunteering at the local animal shelter.  It was fun, but I wanted to bring all the cats home with me.  I always came home feeling sad because I couldn’t give those poor creatures a safe home.  That did not work for me!  I found my niche in the community volunteering at the local homeless shelter.  I bake for them, can and freeze produce for them, have scrapbooked their history, wrap all their Christmas gifts each year and have worked in the office from time to time.  I also work regular shifts on the weekends and sometimes tutor the children staying there.  I love interacting with the residents.  I love sharing the love of Jesus with them.  I love the way they respond to someone who genuinely cares and doesn’t look down on them.

I also learned that my greatest passion is for children.  More to come…..
