These little girls all attend my church. Most of them have been in my Sunday School class at some point in time. It’s amazing for me to watch them as they grow in their own relationships with Jesus. Some think the children go up front to “play” rather than worship. I’m sure there are a few that do. But, most of these children really want to learn how to worship God with their whole being.
Some dance, some sing, some wave flags, some hold banners, and some just goof off (mostly the boys). Many of these girls belong to our dance troupe called, “Stepping Stones”. They are taught the choreography to many of the songs we sing during worship. They are trained by our adult dancers.
We cannot judge the hearts of these children. Look on their little faces and you will surely see their motivation. The eyes really are the windows to the soul. You can tell by the expressions on their faces what their reason is for dancing. It thrills my heart to see the adoration of Jesus in their eyes, or the joy of the Lord on their faces. They worship with a pure heart because they have such a simple faith.
As we grow older, we tend to be more skeptical of people and things. We wonder if we are doing things just right or what our friends might think of how we worship. These children just want to enjoy their time with Jesus and worship Him any way they can. It doesn’t matter if they grab the wrong color of scarf or if they jump a little too high, they just want to please Jesus.
Oh, that we could return to such days of innocence; that we could worship with such freedom; that we could be so consumed with our love of God that nothing else matters. In truth we can. We only need to allow ourselves to be overcome by Jesus. We need to narrow our focus on The Master. We need to walk in simple faith and love with an undying love.
