We have all heard the saying, “the grass is greener on the other side of the fence”.  I think my daisies have decided that, “the dirt is browner on the other side of the yard”.  They normally are only planted in my north flowerbed, but this year they are everywhere.  I have daisies in the front rose bed.  I have daisies in the strawberry patch,  I even have daisies blooming in my vegetable garden.  How did that happen?

I have determined that the birds must have carried the seed hither and yon, lighting wherever it desired.  They are quite pretty and I love them, but I would prefer that they stay where they belong.  My roses may ramble and my tulips multiply, but my daisies need a little discipline in their lives.

I don’t think daisies get restless, but people do.  We tend to think that Mrs. Durn has a better life than we do.  And we know for sure that the neighbor, Carl has more cars that we do.  Why do always want more stuff, bigger stuff, and stuff that belongs to someone else?  We in America have become quite spoiled.  We want it all—-except to be responsible.

Paul said in Philippians 4:11-12, that he had learned to be content in whatever state he found himself.  We would spare ourselves a lot of trouble if we could learn the principle.  My daisies should have been content to stay in their proper place.  We should learn to be happy with what God provides for us.  That doesn’t mean we don’t try to improve ourselves or to grow spiritually and mentally.  We should continually “press toward the mark for the prize of the calling of God in Christ Jesus”, Philippians 3:14.  But, we also need to “bloom where God has planted us”.

Always wanting a better church, a public ministry, or more recognition is not the way to be happy.  We used to sing an old church song called Trust and Obey.  The chorus said, “Trust and obey, for there’s no other way, to be happy in Jesus; but to trust and obey.”  We should  trust Him for all we need and obey Him for whatever He asks.  We can trust Him and be thankful for His provision.  A thankful heart is not one that is easily swayed.  Count your blessings and grow where God has planted you.
