As he prays over Sarah Palin, Bishop Thomas Muthee says, “Make her way my God. Bring finances her way even for the campaign in the name of Jesus.”This tape (hat-tip Andrew Sullivan) reminds us that, among other things, there are still legitimate questions that need to be asked of Sarah Palin about her faith, and the role of religion in politics. As regular readers of this space know, I’ve been defending many of Palin’s religious comments and criticizing unfair charges against her (here, here, here, here, here, and here)However, there are some fair, and important, she ought to answer before election day. My partial list:1) How do you know it was “God’s will” that a natural gas pipeline be built in Alaska? 2) What did you mean when you said that your work as governor would be hampered “if the people of Alaska’s heart isn’t right with God”?3) Do you believe there’s a significant chance that End Times will occur during your lifetime?4) Barack Obama has talked about the areas in which he disagreed with Rev. Jeremiah Wright. What are the areas in which you disagree with the teachings of the Assembly of God church that you left?5) How did you feel when Bishop Muthee was praying for God to direct campaign contributions into your campaign? Was that appropriate? Do you think God answered those prayers?6) You signed a bill creating a Christian Heritage? Would you have signed a Muslim Heritage week?7) John McCain said the Constitution established America as a Christian nation. Do you agree? What are your questions?
