At Beliefnet, we have a special pride in the reported appointment of Julius Genachowski to be chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, a hugely important government agency that oversees regulation of TV, radio and the internet.
You see, Julius served on Beliefnet’s board for several years and was instrumental in helping Beliefnet survive through bankruptcy in 2002. I doubt Beliefnet would have survived without his help.
He’s an old friend, so I’m biased: but he’s both one of the smartest, most competent people you’ll ever meet — and a man of great character and values. If anyone can balance the FCC’s multiple goals of growing the media industry, protecting consumers and helping improve opportunity for Americans, it’s Julius.
Congratulations Julius, and to President-Elect Obama for such a wise selection.
