Several surprises:
All week we’d been hearing that surrogates needed to attack McCain because the Obama needed to remain positive. Turns out he’s tougher on McCain that most of the previous speakers
Republicans had tried to make him and his family seem alien and un-American. Obama could have chosen to say we should vote for him in spite of his unusual upbringing. Instead, he made his family upbringing one of his greatest selling points.
He was a bit more specific with policies than he usually is.
I felt sure he wouldnt talk about aboriton. Instead he made a direct appeal toward his advocacy of reducing the number of unintended pregnancies.
Faith and values talk:
“Sacred commitment to our troops”
“Finding strength and grace” to solve problems.
“The fundamental belief that I am my brothers keeper and my sisters keeper”
Referring to MLK as “the preacher”
“In the words of Scripture hold firmly, without wavering, to the hope that we confess.”
All in all, remarkable.
