Relationships can be a delightful addition to life. However, for it to truly thrive how God designed it to be, we must honor Him. The Bible tells us many times to be equally yoked in romantic relationships. 2 Corinthians 6:14 says, “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?”
A Godly relationship is one where two come together to honor God and themselves with love and respect. A current example of this beautiful Godly union is the relationship between U.S. Olympic gold medalist Sydney McLaughlin and former NFL player Andre Levrone Jr. The athletic couple bonded over their shared Christian faith and have always publicly given God the glory for all of their successes.
Recently, McLaughlin announced that she was engaged to the former NFL star. She shared a photo on Instagram that captured the magical moment that she said yes. Levrone Jr. promised to love and honor McLaughlin as “Christ loved the Church.”
“Future husband, Till this day, I still can’t comprehend how someone who posses everything I’ve prayed for has finally come into my life. Our growth together exceeds what the dates on a calendar show. I fall in love with you more and more each day off of the strength of your faith.” The 22-year-old Olympic hurdler wrote as the caption for the sunset proposal picture at the Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale in Arizona. McLaughlin spoke fondly of her fiancé, describing the 26-year-old athlete as “the most God-fearing, passionate, honest, loving, hard-working, protective, and genuine man I’ve ever met.”
The Olympian said that Levrone’s strong faith in Christ is what made her fall in love with him. She concluded her caption with the loving words, “I truly did not know the definition of love until I met you; a sacrificial choice to lay down your life for the well-being of another. With that being said, there is no one I’d rather lay down my life for. You’re the perfect man to lead me, and I cannot wait to follow.” McLaughlin signed the caption, “Your future wife.”
Levorne Jr. also wrote a letter of adoration to McLaughlin on his Instagram post of their engagement.
The former Carolina Panthers and Baltimore Ravens NFL player shared as the caption, “May we never love one another cautiously, but instead always be eager to love one another extravagantly, in the manner that Christ loved the Church.”
Three weeks before the dynamic duo’s engagement announcement, McLaughlin made history at the Tokyo Olympics. The New Brunswick native surpassed her world record with an astounding 51.46 seconds in the women’s 400m hurdles. The successful young athlete also brought home the gold medal for her team and the U.S.
It is remarkable that these two young athletes honor and love each other through their bond in Christ. It is important to have public examples of Godly relationships so others can see what a healthy Christ-centered relationship looks like. This relationship should inspire everyone to never settle for less than what God has for you. If you are seeking a Godly relationship, put your trust and focus on God. The most important relationship is one with God. The rest will follow with His plan for you.
“Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.”
