Hailey Bieber joined the “Call Her Daddy” podcast with host Alex Cooper Wednesday. One area, in particular, Cooper and Bieber discussed were the rumors of a rivalry between Hailey and Selena Gomez, Bieber’s former on-again-off-again girlfriend. “I respect her; there’s no drama, personally,” Hailey said after stating she had in fact talked to Gomez since she and Justin tied the knot four years ago. “So that’s why I’m like, it’s all respect, it’s all love. That’s also why I feel like, well, if everybody on our side knows what happened and we’re good, and we could walk away from it with clarity and respect, then that’s fine.”

Gomez and Bieber’s romance spanned from 2010 to 2018, with Justin and Hailey dating in between one of Gomez and Bieber’s breaks in 2016 before the pair broke it off. Justin and Selena briefly reunited in 2018 then broke up for a final time before Hailey and Justin reconnected in 2018. It wasn’t long before the two were engaged and married, sparking rumors that Hailey was a “homewrecker” that had been dating Justin while he’d still been with Gomez. Hailey was adamant in denying those rumors. “I can say, period, point blank, I was never with him when he was in a relationship with anybody — that’s the end of it,” she said.

“When him and I ever started like hooking up or like anything of that sort, he was not ever in a relationship, ever at any point,” she said. “It’s not my character to mess with someone’s relationship. I would just never do that.” She did state that she understands where the rumors come from and that, “how it looks from the outside and there’s a lot of perception there, but that was a situation where I know for a fact that it was the right thing for [Selena and Justin] to close that door.” She also talked about the harassment she had received from “Jelena” fans, the name for Justin and Selena’s relationship. However, she said she’s learned to focus on her relationship. “They’ve never ruined anything for me. They’re not ruining my life, they’re not ruining my happiness and that, I think, is the real win of the whole thing. You’re actually not taking anything away from me. So that’s what I keep stepping forward with.”

The last year has been tough for the Biebers. Hailey was hospitalized in March of this year after experiencing stroke-like symptoms after complications from a blood clot. Then in June, Justin revealed he had been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which had caused partial facial paralysis. He briefly returned to performing but recently announced he was canceling his world tour to concentrate on his mental health. In speaking to “Harper Bazaar’s UK” about their health troubles, Hailey said it had only strengthened their bond. “There’s a reason they say ‘for better or for worse,” she said. “Like, that’s for real!”
