Singer Katharine McPhee took to Instagram to announce that she will be missing the last two shows in Jakarta on the Asian leg of her tour with husband, David Foster. McPhee shared that there was a “horrible tragedy” in their family, where she is needed at home. “It is with a heavy heart that I announce that I have to miss our final two shows of our Asia run,” she wrote. “David and I have had a horrible tragedy in our family and at least one of us needs to get back home to our family. Please know how sorry I am and how much I wish to return someday and perform for you all.”

It is reported that the family tragedy they experienced was the death of their son’s nanny, Yadira Calito. She was tragically killed after she was run over by an elderly woman at a Toyota dealership in San Fernando Valley. The elderly woman was taking her car to get serviced when she accidentally hit the gas instead of the break. She crashed into the reception area of the dealership, with Yadira pinned underneath the car. Once she was taken to the hospital, Yadira unfortunately passed away.
Foster will continue performing the final two shows of the Asia tour, which are scheduled to be held at Jakarta’s Sentul International Convention Centre. Following the final Jakarta shows, they are set to take a three month break from touring before starting back up their performances in the U.S. starting in November. There is no word on if there will be any changes to their U.S. tour given the family tragedy.
Foster and McPhee first met on American Idol in 2006 when McPhee was a contestant and Foster was a guest mentor. They became friends, with Foster even playing piano at McPhee’s first wedding. Rumors of their romantic relationship began to swirl in 2017 and the pair made their red carpet debut in 2018, tying the knot one year later. They share one son together, Rennie David, who was welcomed in 2021. Foster already has five daughters from previous relationships, but has embraced fatherhood again, saying “it’s just great being a dad.” This is McPhee’s first child where she referred to motherhood as the “greatest job” she will ever have.
