Earlier this month, athlete and activist, Colin Kaepernick, and parner Nessa Diab welcomed their first child together. The announcement of the birth came on Sunday in an Instagram post made by Diab where the TV and radio personality gushed over their new baby together.

“Colin and I welcomed our amazing baby to the world a few weeks ago and we are over the moon with our growing family,” Diab wrote in her Instagram post. “I know sharing this allows me to connect with you in different ways that I never imagined. My conversations and life experiences have already changed. And my world has gotten that much bigger thanks to our sweet little baby who has shown me how to love in ways I never knew.”

The couple has been linked since 2015, but made their relationship official in February of 2016 when they attended a charity event together.

In 2016, not only did the couple go public with their relationship, this was also the beginning of Kaepernick’s peaceful protests against police brutality by kneeling during the national anthem before his NFL games with the San Francisco 49ers. Some called this controversial while others defended this right to protest. In 2017, as a result of his activism, Kaepernick was named the Citizen of the Year by GQ Magazine where Diab wrote a touching quote about her partner by saying, “I’m very fortunate that I have Colin next to me. It’s everything. We love each other, we care for each other, and we have to remind each other that, hey, we’re doing our part, we’re trying to make a difference.”

The couple’s announcement of their new baby came just prior to Diab hosting MTV’s red carpet show at the Video Music Awards on Sunday night. She wrote in her Instagram post that she decided to wait until Sunday to announce the birth of her baby by saying, “I decided to do so because today is the first day in a few weeks where I stepped out for work with a new life title – MOM!”

Diab continued to gush over not only her new baby, but her partner by saying, “Recovering after delivery has been a journey (more on that later) and honestly I wasn’t going to share anything because this is sooooo personal to us and I realized I’m a complete mama bear! Colin is the most amazing dad and I’m soooo grateful that he is by our side for every moment of this journey.”
