Britney Spears has apparently lost her faith after an audio recording surfaced of her criticizing her sons’ treatment of her and claiming that the situation has caused her to become an atheist. “There is nothing to believe in anymore. I’m an atheist y’all,” she said in the recording, which was formerly on Instagram but can now be found on YouTube. She criticized her sons, Jayden, 15, and Sean, 16, for, “secretly loved looking at me as if something was wrong with me.” The singer then stated that the situation should not have happened if God were real. “God would not [have allowed] that to happen to me if God existed. I don’t believe in God anymore because of the way my children and my family have treated me.” She also implied that her sons are being so critical because in a few years they will not be eligible to receive anymore of her money. “I needed unconditional love and support,” she said of her situation with her family.

Spears famously went through a mental breakdown in 2007, shaving her head and publicly attacking paparazzi. The event led to her father, Jamie Spears, gaining a conservatorship of the singer in 2008 and he maintained the conservatorship until last year. The conservatorship came to light after the documentary, “Framing Britney Spears,” was released, which greatly criticized Jamie’s handling of the conservatorship and implied there was abuse involved. The outcry led to the #FreeBritney movement, with a judge finally ending the conservatorship towards the end of 2021. Unfortunately, the end of the conservatorship has not ended all of Britney’s problems.

The audio appeared to be due to a recent interview that Spears’s ex-husband, Kevin Federline, and their younger son, Jayden, released through ITV. In the interview, Federline stated that he believed Spears’s conservatorship saved her life. “100% I feel like [Jamie Spears] saved her back then,” he said in the interview. He also discussed how the singer’s social media has made their sons uncomfortable. Spears has released a series of near-naked photos on her accounts since the conservatorship ended. “I apologize for them, to them, for them because I can’t imagine how it feels to be a teenager, having to go to high school. Who knows how many people ask them about it or talk to them about it,” Federline said of the posts. Jayden also spoke about his issues with his mother. “Social media helps her… So if that’s what she wants to do that’s what she wants to do, I’m not going to hate her for that. At the same time, she should come to the realization of whatever it is that stops her loving her family.” Despite not having seen his mother for months, the teen spoke openly about hopes for reconciliation. “I 100% think this can be fixed. It’s just going to take a lot of time and effort. I just want her to get better mentally. When she gets better I really want to see her again.”

The pop star has not always been so against God. When she was trying to get her conservatorship removed, she told a judge she preferred to talk to God over attending intensive therapy. In an interview with V Magazine in 2016, she stated, “I have my relationship with God and myself and that’s what matters to me. I really don’t care what most people think.” She has also posted a series of Bible verses to her Twitter in the past and just a few days before the audio was shared, she wrote on her Instagram, “I’m a child of God as well; we all are in God’s eyes.” With the pain of her conservatorship, it seems Britney Spears still has a lot more to go through yet. As her son Jayden said in his interview, “One day, if She (mom) seeks help, we can sit with her, like this (with you) and talk…We would like that.”
