Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson recently attended Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy Gala at The Beverly Hilton where they joked about their pricey secret to marriage. The pair has been married for nearly 35 years and opened up about what they think their secret to a successful marriage is. “Talking about it. Always letting the press know, that there is a secret, and we bottled it,” Hanks said jokingly. Wilson laughed along with Hanks saying, “We’re not gonna tell anyone.” Hanks added saying, “And we’ll sell it to you individually, for $17 billion.”
The pair’s appearance at the pre-Grammy Gala comes just a day after Wilson performed alongside Sebastian Yatra at the Academy’s MusiCares Persons of the Year event which honored Berry Gordy and Smokey Robinson. Hanks complimented his wife’s performance saying, “She was a bottle of champagne that came uncorked… Everybody was sipping and celebrating, I’d say.” Wilson responded saying, “I love you, honey,”
The couple first met in 1981 when Wilson appeared in one episode of Hanks’ sitcom “Bosom Buddies.” The two remained acquaintances before reuniting in 1985 to star as love interests in the movie “Volunteers.” Hanks admitted that their was an immediate spark between the two telling GQ, “Rita and I just looked at each other and—kaboing—that was that. I asked Rita if it was the real thing for her, and it just couldn’t be denied.” The pair shares two sons together, Chet 31, and Truman, 27, along with Colin, 45 and Elizabeth, 40, who are from Hanks’ previous marriage.
