Harrison Ford gave a sweet shoutout to his wife Calista Flockhart while accepting the Critics Choice Career Achievement Award. “I’m really happy to be here tonight to see what our business is turning into and all of the talented people who are getting opportunities that probably would not have existed in the early part of my career.” Ford, 81, said. “I’m here because of a combination of luck and the work of wonderful directors, writers, filmmakers. I feel enormously lucky.” The “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” star ended his speech by thanking his wife who “supports me when I need a lot of support.” Ford jokingly added: “And I need a lot of support.” Flockhart recently mentioned her husband and his support while in an interview with People saying, “He supports me a lot. It’s a mutual thing.”
The two actors began dating after meeting at the 59th Golden Globe Awards in 2002. The pair seemed like an unlikely couple at first as Ford was 60 at the time and Flockhart was 22. Eight years later, tied the knot after Ford proposed on a family vacation the year prior. Before their relationship, Ford had been married twice and welcomed four kids. He later adopted Flockhart’s son, Liam. During an interview with Reader’s Digest, Ford had nothing but praise for Flockhart’s skills as a parent, calling her “the best [mother] in the world.” He said, “She’s a mother by choice — she adopted Liam before we met, as a single parent, which is an awesome responsibility to take. She’s devoted herself to Liam and has done a really wonderful job raising him. I’m happy to now have a part of the job.”
In a 2003 interview, Ford expressed his love for Flockhart by saying, “I’m in love.” He continued, “Romantic love is one of the most exciting and fulfilling kinds of love and I think there is a potential for it at any stage of your life. I was not surprised that I was able to fall in love, and I wasn’t surprised that I did.”
