As a coach, psychotherapists and addiction and recovery specialist I have worked with thousands of people that have addictions. Some are successful in working through their recovery to find a sober, happy and fulfilling life. Some are not and return to addictive behavior of one type or another.
One of the key factors in determining if you will be in the first group or the second is how active you are willing to be in the role as a healer to yourself. This concept, which is really a spiritual and mindset change, is not something that a professional can do for you. You have to do it for yourself and it takes practice, patience and faith in your own abilities. “The Law of Sobriety” gives several case studies of people that have used this self-healing technique to make dramatic changes in their spiritual outlook on themselves and the world around them. These are the people that have lifelong success in their recovery and are able to deal with life, the good and the bad, without returning the addictive behaviors.
In order to be able to give yourself the gift of self-healing it really is important to work with a therapist or life coach that is familiar with addiction recovery. They will be your guides in building a strong mental framework and foundation for your life moving forward. The four corners of this foundation will keep you strong spiritually and mentally as you confidently handle anything that comes your way.
Foundation 1 – Believe in your own success
If you think about success your mind cannot also be looking for ways to fail. By focusing on the positive you will see those changes and recognize the improvements you are making on a daily basis.
Foundation 2 – Set big and small goals that are meaningful to you
A big goal of sobriety is essential, but there are lots of little mini goals you can achieve along the way. Mini goals are motivating and provide you with positive feedback as you continue to grow.
Foundation 3 – See yourself as you desire to be
Seeing yourself as sober, happy and where you want to be is critical. You need to know the person that you desire to be so you can find the resources to help you make the changes that will help you the most.
Foundation 4 – Give to the universe what you want in return
If you want friendship you have to reach out to others in friendship. If you desire good health then you have to incorporate healthy things into your world and be prepared to accept those that are returned to you. This foundation is based on the Law of Attraction and it is a powerful universal law that you can use to your advantage throughout your life.
