The 22-year old actor, famously known for his portrayal of Harry Potter, has admitted to having issues with alcohol. His life took a radical turn when he turned 18 and was filming “Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince.”
“I became so reliant on alcohol to enjoy the stuff… There were a few years where I was just so enamored with the idea of living some sort of famous person’s lifestyle that really isn’t suited to me.”
Radcliffe’s story is not unusual. It is difficult for younger actors to not become involved with some type of substance abuse. They have extremely hectic schedules and work long hours, creating a lifestyle that is similar to an adult. These stresses, along with the usual issues we all face during adolescence can result in younger stars searching for a way to escape. Radcliffe was only nine years old when he was asked to portray the world famous Harry Potter and over the course of making the films he has acquired over $72 million dollars. Radcliffe is lucky that he didn’t become a favorite of the paparazzi and that his abuse was treated.
Daniels life is more enjoyable since he stopped drinking in August of 2010. He told GQ Magazine: “I’m actually enjoying the fact I can have a relationship with my girlfriend where I’m really pleasant and I’m not f*****g up totally all the time.”
He continues saying, “As much as I would love to be a person that goes to parties and has a couple of drinks and has a nice time, that doesn’t work for me. I do that very unsuccessfully. I’d rather sit at home and read, or talk to somebody that makes me laugh.”
Congratulations to Daniel Radcliffe for admitting he had a problem and taking the necessary steps to conquer his addiction. That is an amazing feat for a young successful actor.
