As you go through life there are a lot of paths put in front of you. The road forks many times along the way. Don’t plan on hearing the audible voice of God telling you which way to go, though, that would be completely amazing. Rather, you have a choice. Did you get that? It is your choice. (even if you don’t believe in the freewill of man, you have to admit that we at least perceive the world with choices)
So which one do you choose?

It doesn’t matter.

Ok, sure it matters in the sense of weighing the pros and cons on where to go to college or what house to buy. We need to use wisdom, do research, seek wise council, and make the best decision possible. But whatever you choose is fine with God, that is, as long as you are living righteously. Isn’t that what “In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths” means. Whatever choice you are making, you need to acknowledge God in it and use the Word to make a righteous decision. If you are truly living for the Lord, he will direct your path. So you will naturally make the righteous decision.

Here is a story from my own experience. When I was in high school it came time for me to decide where to go to college. A big decision, right? No, it was HUGE. I was really sweating it too. I had lived for God for most of my life. Now, I was afraid that I would completely miss God’s will for my life and screw everything up. I was to the point that it was almost making me sick.  That’s what happens to most Christians.  They are so worried about making the wrong decision that they make no decision.

My dad, ever perceiving as he is, saw that I was in great distress. That is when my dad and I had another one of our father-son chats where he does most of the talking. He said, “Son, don’t you think that God loves you enough that, even if you pick the wrong school, as long as you did because you thought it was truly His will for your life, God will be good and gracious enough to get you back on track.”

He was right. If I was living righteously, I didn’t need to be so worried about where my steps went, God would order my steps. For the first time in my life I saw the will of God as something that I could enjoy, not something I had to live in fear o if I missed. I realized God’s plans were to “prosper me and not to harm me, to give me a hope and a future.” (Jer 29:11) I do my part and live righteously, and I won’t worry about God doing his part, ordering my steps.

Jesus said it best, “Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, then all these things will be added unto you.”

So what about you? Are you worried about a big decision? Are you living righteously? Ok then, just make the decision. Follow the peace of God.
