A man kisses his wife goodbye. He holds her one last time and then boards the spaceshuttle. He will be on his flight for almost 10 years. The sound of the shuttle door slamming shut echos into every fiber in his being. He is completely cut off the world he knows and loves. He looks out the window in the shuttle door and sees her standing there, alone. His heart breaks. The rockets burst into action with intensity, and his guts do the same. The rocket moves slowly into the sky. He is gone. Travelling though space at nearly the speed of light.
10 year later he lands safely back on earth. Word cannot express the joy he has to see his bride. However, when he does see her, she hates him. Because for her, it has been 20 years.
This is Einstein’s Theory of Relativity. For a man travelling at the speed of light, time moves slower. In fact, anything in motion moves at a slower time than something standing still.
Now, the story above is negative, but let’s see if we can move it to a positive.
If you are moving, time is slower. Thanks Einstein, but this seems opposite of experience, which is that time drags when you are sitting around and goes quickly when you are doing stuff. But according to the genius, time is slower for you if you are moving. The faster you move, the slower time goes. Granted, unless you are traveling at the speed of light, you will never notice this “time travel”.
Ever wish you had more time? Keep moving. Don’t sit around staring at a computer. Move!
