I’m not claiming to be an expert, mostly.
I do know this: it’s not about me. And occasionally I even live like I believe that.

When I examine the parts of my life that have been the most miserable, I find that those were the times I was more concerned about myself than others.

It kinda makes sense too. If you are jacked up (and we all are) and then you spend a lot of time looking at that jacked up thing, you get depressed. But if you see someone else that is jacked up, and try to reach out to them or help, you not only help them feel better, but you can get a pretty decent high from helping them as well.

It can seem almost counter intuitive. Jesus said, “Those who are first will be last, and the last will be first.” Something like that. It’s really upside-down and backwards from how we want it to be, but this is life.

So if life is really hard right now, don’t wallow in your misery. Find a situation that you can get involved in that will improve life for someone else. Be Jesus to that person, and maybe, just maybe, you will find yourself in a better place than you started. What could it hurt?
