Life is simple if you live by this simple motto: Don’t worry, live righteously.
You can even sing that cheesy Bobby McFerrin song to it if you want. You know, the one those talking fish sing.
Basically, if you live by the Word of God you will be living a righteous life. According to Scripture this means your steps will be just fine.
There two responsible parties here: God and you. God says, “If you live righteously I will order your steps.” If you do your part then He does His.
So let’s review to make sure you really got it. What is your responsibility? To live righteously. What’s God’s responsibility? To order your steps. Once again, this is very simple. The problem is that we usually try do God’s part and tell God to do our part for us. We wrongly order our own steps and leave every form of righteousness up to God.
God understands human nature. He became a man himself just to prove it. But he reminds us over and over again, “In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps.” This isn’t because He thinks we are incompetent and can’t make it without him. It’s because He knows we can’t make it without Him.
So what do we do when we finally get to the place where we are willing to give the Lord every part of our life? What is the YBH of letting God have control and determining our steps? The answer to that is found in Psalms 119:105. It says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.”
We need to know where to step next. The reason we have had problems with knowing where to step in the past is that we couldn’t see. It’s like we were trying to drive a car at night without headlights. God says, “Here are some headlights.” Boom! Now we can see. And it was all because He gave us His Word.
God’s word is the road map for our lives. It shows us everywhere we can go and how to get there. We can get a clear picture of where we are and where we should be. If you are not consistently in the word there is no way of being able to see where in the world you are. You need a road map to get to your goal!
The Word says, “The steps of a righteous man are ordered by the Lord.” This isn’t a magical process that just happens but rather is the result of a righteous person trying to know God so he or she knows what steps to take.
So don’t worry, live righteously.
What worry has kept you from moving forward?
