I’ve written before about how I hope and pray for Penny that she will live a “full” life, even if the fullness comes in unconventional ways (Full or Functional?).

The idea of a “full life” came up in a number of comments on Motherlode last week, and most people used the phrase to describe the life Penny and other people with disabilities could never have. But one reader, wrote me to say: “They are clearly the ones who will never live a full life because they are only open to such a small portion of it.”

Thank you, Mary Elizabeth, for your profound insight. And thank you Penny for making my life all the more full. Indeed, you have opened me up to so much more of it.
