Ohio priest accused of growing marijuana in the rectory

Officials seized marijuana plants from the living quarters of a church Wednesday.

In all, 35 marijuana plants, ranging from 6 inches to 4 feet, were found in a spare bedroom. There were also grow lights, electric transformers, air purifiers and instructional books for growing marijuana. Two plastic bags containing marijuana and $1,100 in cash were also seized.

Richard Arko, 40, the priest at the church, was charged with illegal cultivation of marijuana, a fifth-degree felony.

This same priest was profiled in a Knight-Ridder story from 2002 featuring his interest in yoga.
