A reunion of folks who grew up in the care of Fr. Nelson Baker’s orphanage

We were the original “Band of Brothers,’ ” said Gerald Schenk, who sang in the choir.

Today, the former Baker Boys – and the women, too, who grew up in the Infant Home and Orphanage – embody the last remnants of living history surrounding a Western New York icon being considered for sainthood in the Catholic Church.

Father Baker’s children are now in their mid-70s and 80s. And they are scattered all over the country.

This summer, they will gather together for what may be their last reunion, before memories fade, steps falter, and the list of survivors shrinks even further.

More on Fr. Baker. We stopped by Our Lady of Victory a couple of years ago and were very impressed – beautiful church, amazing man.
