Blogger Steve Skojec looks at Rick Santorum’s explanation of his support for Specter that’s in the new Crisis.

I’ll give Santorum some points for at least being accountable enough to offer an explanation to the legions of American Catholics who have, up until now, viewed him as a ray of hope for our secularistic democracy. But his explanations are meager, and his logic doesn’t hold water. If Specter was his only choice, I could understand his points. But when there is an electable, pro-life, conservative underdog fighting to bring moral values to his State and his Nation, why wouldn’t another electable, pro-life, conservative underdog support him? There are higher loyalties than political ones.

What Santorum has done, on a political level, is shown us that he’s willing to throw his ideals under the bus to get an outside shot at holding on to a slim majority in a nearly ineffectual (at least from a conservative point of view) Republican Senate. In my book, that’s just morally unacceptable.
