But I still want to point out to you the absolutely great section of the North American College website on the Station Churches in Rome

The interactive map shows you where each church is located, and the tradition is for the NAC seminarians to walk to each station church for an English-language Mass celebrated at 7am each morning. Yup. Walk. See the NAC, way over there on the left? I am not quite sure how many of them actually walk to St. Paul Outside the Walls or San Lorenzo Fuori le Mura. Oh, some probably do…first-hand reports?

(I do recall speaking to a couple of seminarians who admitted they’d be riding their motorcycles to the next days’ station church…that could be a penance, too…you never know.)

For a history of the Station Churches, go here, and here’s an article by John Allen on the traditions.
