A college student writes:

This semester at (State U. X.) I am taking a class, "Enlightenment and Modern World".
Because of some comments my professor has made, implicitly equating the pre-Enlightenment period with "fanaticism" and inquisitions. I was wondering if either you or your readers know the following, and could document it:
1) Approximately how many Catholics were martyred by the French Revolutionaries?
2) How many people were murdered by the Inquisition in France during all its years’ (centuries’?) existence?
Thanks for the help!
