Laura Grunas, a Plantation police officer, argued with her boyfriend Robert Peat on Aug. 4, and police had to tell her to leave his Plantation home. When she returned a short time later that night, Grunas killed Peat and committed suicide, police said.
Peat’s friend, Plantation reserve police officer and volunteer firefighter Michael Roth, witnessed the argument and was present when Grunas came back to the house, investigators said.
According to Roth’s statement to police, Grunas asked Roth: "Did he tell you about killing my baby?"
Plantation Detective Brian Kendall’s final nine-page report obtained by the South Florida Sun-Sentinel on Thursday said: "Roth advised that Peat had told him that when they found out she was pregnant, they decided to terminate the pregnancy. Peat was enormously upset about it due to religious beliefs, but felt that it was the right thing to do."
