30,000 in LA:
More than 30,000 faithful packed a college stadium Sunday to commemorate the 475th anniversary of the appearance of the Virgin of Guadalupe to an Indian peasant in Mexico.
Attendees chanted “Long live the Virgin of Guadalupe” as Cardinal Roger Mahony celebrated a special Mass at East Los Angeles College.
Not a mention of this in the LA Times. I guess they ran out of Catholic Space in reporting on the settlement. Not that I begrudge that reporting, and before anyone goes off reflexively on, "of course they’re biased" remember that up to recently, the Times has been very easy on the Archdiocese and not taken much interest in doing much investigative reporting at all. (I note that Larry Stammer, the mainstay of previous reporting on the Archdiocese in the paper, is missing from the bylines on the settlement stories. I don’t know if Stammer is still with the paper or not, but his absence from these stories is interesting.)
