1. Paint.
Have almost the whole area re-painted, a sophisticated steely-gray-bluish thing, replacing the faintly flowery wallpaper that was up before. The problem has been for me, given the countours of the space…how much color to put up and where to stop? I don’t think we want the whole blessed first floor that color, but determining the point of transition is a bit of a challenge for the design-deficient among us, which is all of us.
2. Bella
Michael and I went and saw Bella Friday night. It was a small film with some awkwardness and amateurishness about it, but worth seeing. I think young people would enjoy it and be moved by it. It’s not the greatest film ever made and has been overhyped in some quarters in that sense,  but by no means is it a total hack job unworthy of anyone’s time, either.
3. Alex Jones
Former Pentecostal minister Alex Jones was in town over the weekend, and I took Katie to see him on Friday afternoon – the only time out of her busy schedule that she’d be free. When I got there, I learned that he’d been at the Catholic high school in the morning, but that hadn’t been publicized – if I’d known he was going to be there, I would have taken her over there. Ah, well. His presentation on Friday afternoon was fairly low-key and unfortunately didn’t go into as much detail on his conversion as I imagine the evening presentations did, but it was worth the time – I saw, out of the corner of my eye, Katie give rather interested assent when he described moving from his former Protestant home to Catholicism as akin to moving from a smal box into a whole new place, rich and universal.
Speaking of conversion…Aimee Milburn turns up another well-written story – this time coming into full Communion from the Episcopal Church. And over at Et, Tu, Jen (who has made the journey from atheist to Catholic) shares 5 Catholic Teachings That Just Kinda Made Sense to Me.
