The humility of this pope shines through. The manner in which he prayed the Eucharistic Prayer – perhaps it’s partly a function of his age and fatigue, but I’m thinking it’s also an expression of his convictions about who he is at that moment.
No showboating here.
And then, his words, off-the-cuff, at the end of Mass. Remember – this is the anniversary of his election – in which he spoke of himself as the “poor successor of St. Peter” – and of flaws, sins and spiritual poorness (or as he said, “poorness..spiritual..), asked for prayers, and expressed his gratitude by giving the best that he has – his blessing..”at ze end of ze Holy Mass.”
Neither silver nor gold…
