One of the orphanages that Margaret Haughery, the amazing illiterate Irish orphan and widow, who turned out to be a business genius and made a fortune which she used to feed thousands of orphans herself, built in the 19th century in NO has been turned into the St. Vincent’s Guest House.

The Guest House is in the Garden district and apparently survived without major damage (no electricity, of course) but the Director wants to use the house to provide help and they contacted me to see if I could get word out. Margaret would approve! I tell her story at every Called & Gifted workshop.

Here’s the story: "Peter Schreiber wants to have an organization at St. Vincent’s Guest House to help with the food and the people so that the place doesn’t get trashed as it had when he opened it up for shelter in past storms. Can you help to get the info to the right people? I e’d Larry King Live and CNN and FOX National News, but maybe you have some political contacts that can make this happen? "We have a space in NOLA that can be used as a food distribution center/housing for people, 40-50K square feet, centrally located high and dry, 1 1/2 acre parking, 70 rooms. Formerly civil war orphanage now guest house. Owner would like to have this space used asap he can sometimes receive phone calls, he is stranded in NOLA with no electricity, I seem to be able to contact him more than anyone. The phones don’t work there, the best way is to contact Peter at the above number, and cel phones seem to be the only way to contact him. Sometimes it rings and he is either not there, on another call or not hearing the phone ringing so keep trying if anyone attempts to make contact with him."
